GRADUATION - GTS 2006

July 4th, 2006

Graduation

As we all know at the completion of most schools there is a ceremony of some sort to mark the end of the program and to honor the students. This is lovingly called graduation here on Cyprus…

This year’s graduation was one of a kind as is every year! We started off with a few worship songs, just thanking the Lord for all He has done over the past six months. Then we had a time where each of the students shared a testimony from outreach with those from the community that were not with us. It was so amazing to hear each testimony and each one was so special. They were all so unique and absolutely inspired by God in everyway.

Then the tears slowly began to flow as each student, one by one, received their certificates of completion and encouraging words from the staff at Gateways. It was a very special time that will never be forgotten.

After the ceremony a very impressive spread of finger foods was laid out and we all feasted and had a special time of fellowship for the last time as a whole group as the goodbyes were to start that night with Nicole Vinson and Matthieu Mazel. But even through the sadness of saying goodbye we all look forward to an amazing future knowing that the Lord will cause our paths to cross again in His perfect timing.

Outreach ‘06 to FIGS: Marseille

MARSEILLE, france

Marseille On Monday we set out for Marseille. We had a beautiful drive along the coast of France driving through towns like Cannes where the famous Film Festival is held. Very exciting!
When we finally reached our destination after quite an adventuress drive through the old town we arrived at the “Gym.” Where we found out that we would all be sharing the same mattress, but not just any mattress! It was the gym’s main workout mat. We were all very excited to be in such tight quarters! It was definently an experience of a life time. That night we had pizza and a great time of worship preparing ourselves for the last leg of outreach.

Tuesday we met up with the youth pastor of the church we were going to be working with over the next few days. He took us on a tour of the Old Port and told of the different spiritual strongholds that they are fighting against in the city. After a nice lunch we headed back out to the Old Port where we were provided with a sound system to do Street evangelism. It was an awesome experience for everyone on the team. To once again see how proclaiming the name of  Yeshua draws people. Later that night we were treated to a wonderful meal at the Buffalo Grill!

On Wednesday the team had a bit of free time, while a few of the team members went to be apart of a Sunday School that reaches out to Arab children in the slums of Marseille. Even though the children couldn’t speak English it was still so amazing to be able to impart the love of Yeshua through a smile or a hug or just letting them sit on your lap.
That night the city was hosting the annual music festival in which we were privileged to participate in. It is a day set apart where anyone that wants to can play music on loud speakers on the city. We were able to draw crowds through abandoned worship before the Lord and the girl’s dance. And where there’s a crowd there is opportunity to share the gospel! One after another we saw the people’s countenances change and their hearts open as we shared of the love and hope we have in Yeshua. By the end of the night we had seen three salvations and hundreds of seeds planted. We were also able to encourage many American navy and Marines who were on leave for six days. We were honored to speak words of life and appreciation to ones who so faithfully service the US.

Marseille

On Thursday we had a nice relaxed day which we all needed after going hard for two days in a row. We had a nice little picnic on the Harbor down at Cassis where many of the students enjoyed a nice swim in the ocean.

Later that afternoon we drove to the artistic town of Aix en Provence for a French meal complete with French wine and dessert. A perfect end to a perfect day!

Friday morning before we began the long journey home we went to the Jewish quarter of the city to help evangelize with another group of people that hand out free books about Yeshua every week!
This began our 14 hour drive to the Prague airport that was, thankfully, cut in half with a short overnight stay at the wonderful Villa Emmanuel again. Usually the goodbyes don’t begin until after we get back from outreach, but this year they began a bit earlier as we said goodbye to two beloved classmates, Denyse Lanter and Estee Zimmerman. Goodbyes are always bittersweet but we know the Lord has great plans for both of them so it wasn’t too hard to let them go and for many we will see them again one day.

At six o’clock on Saturday morning we were all loaded up and ready to go. We traveled through France, Switzerland, Germany and then finally Prague.  After a 5 hour flight and a 1 ½ drive up the mountain to the base, we were all very pleased to see our beds! Ending an amazing, power packed outreach!

A quote from Catherine Booth of the Salvation Army is how we began our journey into the nations of the FIGS.  “Oh Lord, fill us with this love and baptize us with this fire!  And then the gospel will arise and become glorious in the earth, and men will belive in us, and in it.  They will feel it’s power, and they will yield to it by the thousands, and by the grace of God, THEY SHALL!!!”  This prayer has truly become a reality as we look back on the past weeks and we can testify to the power and greatness of the manifestation of God in the earth.  We are all forever changed by this experience and know that this has become a lifestyle for us and not just “outreach.”

Outreach ‘06 to FIGS: The Farm (”La Graousse”)

June 30th, 2006

TOULOUSE, france
After our short but wonderful stay in the city of Torino we headed for the Mazel Farm.  The Farm is run by a family in the north of France and we were very privileged to have one of their sons as a student this year (Matthieu).
The Land is so beautifully green with rolling hills that stretch out as far the eye can see.  Wheat that makes the Land look like a see of gold and if that’s not enough there is cattle, horses and three donkeys.
After our journey from Italy we were excited to find that our tents were already setup as we were going to be camping for the next 4 days.  We all slept well that night and were given the welcome of a lifetime when we woke up to an army of ants in our tents. AHHHHHHH!!

Farm

Friday, our first day on the farm, started out with a time of worship where we all experienced a deeper level of the love of God for us.  And a time of repentance which seems to be a theme this year as we are made more like Him.  After worship we began to prepare for Shabbat.  Some made Challah, some cleaned, some decorated and some stacked wood.

That night we had about 80 people at dinner.  We were blessed to have 3 GTS alumni with us, Faith Collins, Sabrina and her husband and new born baby and Naomi Trovato.  Shabbat was our first encounter with the youth of the Farm and although the language barrier was a bit difficult to get over, we persevered and enjoyed a good night with new friends.

On Saturday we had an all youth day that was completely led and organized by the interns and students.  Starting at 2 that afternoon we broke the ice with a crazy round of musical chairs.

France won!!  Afterwards Matthieu mazel who is a student this year shared about the GTS.  Then Kacy and Thaddaeus shared testimonies from the past 6 months.  We then had a time of worship in both French and English and afterwards Yvita (Intern) led a creative art workshop.  We listened to worship music and waited to hear what the lord would say to us.  Some drew pictures and some wrote poems, all beautiful expressions of the Lord’s creativity through us.

After the workshop we played a roaring game of Capture the Flag that actually ended in a draw and later on Kacy and Suzanna taught a hip hop dance to some of the youth girls.  Later that evening we had a powerful time of worship together and we also had a time of speaking words of life and encouragement one on one into their lives.  It was so amazing to see His presence descend upon us and feel Him move among us as He opened hearts.  It was truly a blessing to minister to them.

Farm     Farm     Farm

On Sunday we had a wonderful meeting with the church and we were able to once again bring life and light to the people of God through the girls dance and the exhortations of Staff and Interns.  Afterwards we went swimming and played more games with the youth.  It was also Estee’s birthday.

Monday morning goodbyes came and we once again climbed into the vans that we have grown to love dearly and traveled on to Marseille, France.
